Doxofylline is methylxanthine derivative drug which is used for asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. It helps in relaxing the muscles of the air passages, thus widening it and making it easier to breathe. It will relieve symptoms such as tightness in your chest, shortness of breath, wheezing and coughing and help you carry out your daily activities more easily. This medicine is safe and effective. It usually starts to work within a few minutes and the effects can last up to several hours.

Dose and Direction of Use
Swallow the tablet whole by water. Do not chew, crush or break it. This tablet may be taken with or without food, but it is better to take it at a fixed time. Take this medicine in the dose and duration as advised by your doctor.
Mode of Action
The main mechanism of action of doxofylline is unclear. One of the mechanisms of action of is thought to arise from the inhibition of phosphodiesterase activity thus increasing the levels of cAMP and promoting smooth muscle relaxation. The anti-asthmatic effects of doxophylline are mediated by other mechanisms, primarily through inhibiting the activities of the phosphodiesterase (PDE) enzyme.
Uses
It is indicated for the treatment of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), bronchial asthma and pulmonary disease with spastic bronchial component
Contraindications
Don't use this medicine if you have:
- Hypersensitivity to Doxofylline
- Acute myocardial infarction
- Hypotension
Precautions and Warning
- It does not work immediately and should not be used to relieve sudden breathing problems.
- Do not stop taking the meication without consulting your doctor, even if you feel better.
- It is advised not to consume alcohol or do not smoke while on treatment.
- You must avoid high caffeinated products like coffee, tea, and dark chocolates as it enhances drug side effects.
- It is safe to prescribed for breast-feeding women.
- Consult to your doctor if you are pregnant before taking this medication.
